Overview

As India charts its path to becoming a global steel powerhouse, the role of coking coal remains firmly at the heart of this journey. With the nation targeting 300 MnT of steel capacity by 2030 - and aiming even higher at 500 MnT by 2047 - ensuring a stable, diversified, and future-ready supply of coking coal is vital.

However, this growth story comes with an urgent responsibility: transforming how this critical resource is sourced and used, while addressing the industry’s significant carbon footprint. The coking coal sector stands at a decisive crossroads — one that demands innovation, collaboration, and bold strategies to balance energy security with sustainability goals in-spite of BF-BoF process being one of prime Steel making route India in future.

The ISA Coking Coal Summit, returning for its third edition on 8th September 2025, will bring together key voices who will brain storm and suggest what will need to be done to bring this transformation in-spite of various challenges. The summit will bring synergy alongside some common session of the ISA Steel Conclave, will explore how India can diversify its coking coal portfolio, reduce import dependency, navigate shifting global dynamics, and B2B sessions and networking opportunities.

From tackling price indexation challenges unique to India’s market, to expanding domestic mining and beneficiation capacities, to aligning with global climate targets — the discussions will set the tone for actionable pathways forward. Senior policymakers, international experts, industry leaders, and solution providers will exchange ideas and outline collaborative approaches that can redefine the future of steelmaking.

At a time when decarbonisation is no longer optional, the ISA Coking Coal Summit 2025 is more than just a conference – the Summit is a collective step towards securing India’s steel ambitions while building a greener, more resilient tomorrow and a way forward towards aa Aatmanirbhar Viksit Bharat.
